#womeninbizrock | Nina Elegba, founder of Magpie on the Run

Nina Elegba calls herself a 'London Magpie who will stop at no ends to bring back all the most enthralling jewels to her digital nest’!

Magpie on the Run is a beautiful online boutique that pulls together minimalist and sculptural jewellery from international designers.

We spoke to Nina on inspiration, female empowerment and how she overcomes challenges. Read on.. we hope you’ll be as inspired as we are!

What inspired you to set up Magpie on the Run?

On my travels whether at home in the UK, or overseas I always encounter the most amazing and inspiring jewellery designers. It was reaching the point, were I found it too selfish to keep them all to myself so I launched Magpie on the Run in October 2014 as a retail platform to share with fellow jewellery lovers.

What's the toughest challenge that you've faced since setting up in business?

Time management is one of my biggest challenges.  Alongside running Magpie on the Run I still work full time in my day job in TV Production.  I've learned to become accustomed to early morning starts.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Kill people with kindness.

Is being a woman in the 2010s tougher than any other decade?

Right now it's such an exciting time to not only be a woman but a woman in business.  There is a huge sense of female empowerment and self-worth and its really inspiring being a part of it.

What’s your biggest career achievement to date?

Being selected to take part in the first Stylist Live event was such a huge moment for me. It was during the first year of business for Magpie on the Run and it was the moment I realised that I had a fully-fledged business and not just a passion project created at in my home studio.

What advice would you have given to yourself 10 years ago?

Don't be afraid to embrace change. I sat on the idea of Magpie on the Run for way too long as I was too scared to embrace the change in would bring to my life. I wish I had done it sooner as it’s the best decision I ever made.

Do you think there is a compromise with the perception of ‘being comfortable’ in ladies fashion?

Jewellery is the best disguise for your comfy clothes. A great pair of statement earrings or necklace can take the most casual of outfits into the realm of glam in 2 seconds flat!
