In conversation with Lara Morgan, Scentered® founder.
We sat down with Lara Morgan, founder of 100% natural aromatherapy brand, Scentered® to find out more about her small business journey, and what it's like to walk in her shoes.
The Scentered Story
Tell us a little about how Scentered was born...
I was running a global hotel supply business, living life at 100 miles an hour, with three young daughters and a work/life balance that would make the most resilient person cry. I was at breaking point.
My mum came to my rescue. An aromatherapist, she gave me a selection of bath oils to blend that were designed to help me relax, sleep, focus and keep control. Whilst they had an impact, I was frustrated with having to use the oils in a bath, when I was travelling so much – it just wasn’t practical. Then the oils leaked in my suitcase and I lost patience with them.
I knew though, that aromatherapy could help me, I just needed to have them in an easy to use, portable format that I could keep with me for when I needed them. And so, much easier said than done, some years later Scentered was born.
If Scentered had a signature scent that represents you, what would it smell like and why?
Scentered is not designed or blended to have one single scent, but instead provide a journey of daily health and wellbeing support to impact positive outcomes whatever and whenever required.
The signature is the ritual or the mantra of Stop Inhale & Reset that we wish to be famous for.
Can you share a story from the early days of Scentered that still makes you laugh?
When we were designing the sleep fragrance my partners child wanted her to return home to collect Pablito, the teddy bear, not for the teddy bear but for the trial balm in the pocket of the bear that we helping him sleep at night.
What is your most cherished scent memory from childhood, and how has it influenced your work?
Fresh cut grass and the combination of rosemary squeezed between my fingers to release a potent, positive uplifting focus.
If you could only use one Scentered product for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
The Escape balm because it transports me to Sri Lanka with the use of Sandalwood Oud, and Frankincense reminding me of endless happy times.
What’s the most unusual place or situation where you’ve found inspiration for a new product?
A greetings card shop, as sending scent with sentiment seem to me a perfect longer lasting gift that enhances the memory of an important message. Today a touch of kindness can be a game changer to someones potential.
And finally... What's next for Scentered?
We are focused on US expansion whilst continuing to listen and learn from a growing fan base of returning customers, who gain value from our confidence boosting pocket rocket balms.
